We Breathe Together
2009

Zine Project: Portland/Winnipeg

Created by Buckminster Fuller in 1946, the Dymaxion World Map offers a global view that moves beyond projections that visually distort our planet. Fuller's map challenges hierarchical global relationships and imposed divisions between south, north, west and east.Originally devised to be shaped into a 20-sided icosahedron, the dymaxion map is presented on a series of seven pages for viewers to cut out of the zine and fold, shape and inflate into cubes with their breath. Together the cubes function as a sculptural work which offers expanded consideration of individual and collective global perspectives and identity.Viewers are invited to open consideration of these layered global views by installing the work in a public place.

We breathe together.
